Kiwi Overview

Kiwi is a suite of seven integrated server processes, of which five are RFC [1] Internet Standard [2] compliant servers. This comprises of:

  • SMTP: Simple Mail Transport Protocol
  • POP3: Post Office Protocol version 3
  • IMAP4: Internet Message Access Protocol version 4rev1
  • MTA: Message Transfer Agent
  • Web Server: HTTP/1.1: HyperText Transfer Protocol
  • IMS: Instant Messaging Server
  • LSM Server: Local Services Management Server

Supported Operating System's

Kiwi was designed from the start to be a multi-platform server system and our aim is release binaries for both Microsoft Windows and Linux Operating systems. At the present time only the Microsoft Windows versions are available, however it is planned to release a Linux compatible set of binaries eventually.

Network Interfaces & Security

Each server component can be configured to service up to ten Network ports, and includes support for accepting SSL-TLS secured & standard unsecured connections that may then be upgraded in session to SSL-TLS.

Multi Processor (SMP) & Hyper-threading support

The Networking Library used by the server modules includes support for SMP (Symmetric Multiple Processor) computer hardware. This library provides various user definable parameters that can be adjusted to suit each hardware configuration.

Domains, Sub-Domains & Virtual Domain's

Kiwi natively supports an unlimited number of Domain's, Sub-Domain's & Virtual Domain's (which can also be referred to as Domain Aliasing) that in turn can support an unlimited number of user accounts.

Common Script Language

To further enhance administration & bespoke development, all services share a Common Script Language which can be used to automate any number of administrative & routine tasks.

Easy Administration

To facilitate easy administration all of these services are placed under the control of a Local Services Management Server which can be controlled both locally and remotely via a Web Administration (source included) which is written in the built-in Common Script Language (See below).

Web Mail Application

Bundled with Kiwi is a Web Mail Application (source included) which runs natively on the included Web Server. This application is written in the Common Script Language, and can be customised to suit your own requirements. Alternatively, a number of third party WebMail applications are available, that you may download directly from these vendors.
